VETERAN FUNDRAISER AND LONG-TIME ADVOCATE TO LEAD CHILDREN’S DEFENSE FUND DEVELOPMENT TEAM

WASHINGTON, DC – The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) announced today the appointment of Armando Zumaya, a seasoned fundraiser with more than 22 years of experience, to the position of Vice President of Development. He will lead CDF’s fundraising efforts and strategies in order to support the organization and improve the lives of children.

“For more than 20 years Armando has lead development offices, and we are honored that he will be bringing his expertise to CDF,” said CDF Chief Operating Officer Marjorie Newman-Williams “Armando’s presence at CDF will help enable CDF to expand its work on its strategic priorities such as ensuring health coverage for all children in America.”

As Vice President of Development, Mr. Zumaya oversees CDF’s fundraising efforts and manages the Development team. He is responsible for implementing effective and ambitious fundraising strategies to meet the operating budget costs of $26 million and to bolster CDF’s work on its strategic priorities, increasing its effectiveness as the voice for all of America’s children. CDF is a Better Business Bureau accredited charity, a Four Star Charity as ranked by Charity Navigator, a Five Star/Best in America Charity certified by the Independent Charities of America, and was recently named one of the Top 100 Highly Rated Charities by GiveSpot.com.

Prior to joining CDF, Mr. Zumaya spent the past 22 years fundraising in a variety of roles that have given him a unique perspective on development offices, prospecting and the role of research. He was most recently the Chief Income Development Officer for the American Cancer Society, California Division. He has spent the bulk of his fundraising career as a Major Gift, Leadership Gifts and Annual Fund officer on two separate billion dollar campaigns at Cornell University and the University of California, Berkeley. He also served as the Director of Development of Major Gifts at the San Francisco Opera for over two years where he directed the refurbishment of their major and planned giving efforts. Mr. Zumaya received his B.A. from the University of California, Riverside, and is a proud alumnus of Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles, CA.
