Jamilla is a community and international development professional with extensive field experience in East Africa and the US. Jamilla combines the ability to work in close community settings with the scope to interact and influence regional and international institutions and organizations. She is an expert in community-driven development, human-centered design, and community building approaches to deliver and mobilize resources for public and community good in extremely low-income communities. Jamilla’s work is aimed at creating sustainable, thriving, and inclusive communities. She endeavors to bridge community vision to local and national resources. She believes that it is only through working together that we can achieve our goals and create a better world for ourselves and future generations.
Jamilla is a native of South Carolina. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in Communication and a B.A. in Spanish. She then went abroad to serve as a Rotary Ambassadorial Fellow and earned her M.A.
Jamilla’s journey with Freedom School includes roles as a Servant Leader Intern and Executive Director.
