Jalyn Gilbert is an accomplished educator and passionate advocate for equitable education. A proud graduate of the University of Dayton, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in AYA Education (Adolescent to Young Adult) and is a certified Urban Teacher Academy graduate. Committed to continuous growth and development, Jalyn is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, with a focus on obtaining a principal licensure. She is currently serving as a teacher of Black History where she designed the curriculum at a charter school in Dayton, Ohio, where she imparts her knowledge and passion to 5th-8th graders. Her mission is to empower students through a comprehensive understanding of Black history, culture, and heritage. She holds a pivotal role as a Student Voice Advisor, where she mentors and guides student leaders in leadership training and event planning, contributing to the transformation of school culture. As the Social Studies Department Chair, she exhibits her leadership and expertise in her field, shaping the curriculum and educational direction of her institution. Jalyn’s commitment to professional development is evident through her involvement in the National Black Teacher Project, where she honed her skills and knowledge to become a standout educator. She also takes the lead as the head basketball coach and basketball trainer, instilling not just academic excellence but also physical fitness and teamwork values in her students.
Her journey as a Freedom Schools scholar, servant leader intern, project director, and consultant has allowed her to broaden her perspectives and engage with a diverse array of educational experiences. Now, she has taken on the role of an Ella Baker trainer, furthering her mission to create culture to foster love for learning in scholars across the country.
