Carmen White is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. Carmen received her B.S. in Sports Science and Fitness Management from the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University. She is pursuing her Master’s of Public Health in Physical Activity and Public Health from the University of South Carolina. Her passion for seeing the lives of others change through diet, exercise, and education led her to become a Certified Personal Trainer and develop a program for her family members who suffer from chronic illnesses, which she plans to make accessible across the country. Outside of her education, Carmen serves as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Arnold Childhood Obesity Initiative where she is assisting on a sleep intervention project to engage key community partners (4k-5k teachers) in developing a school and home-based sleep promotion program. Carmen was introduced to the Freedom Schools program as a Level 3 scholar in the summer of 2014 and has never left. Since then, she has served as a Junior Servant Leader Intern, Servant Leader Intern, and Site Coordinator at her local site, Francis Burns United Methodist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Carmen is a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated member, and is ecstatic to serve her third year as an Ella Baker Trainer.
