WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the House of Representatives failure to override the President’s veto of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) reauthorization bill, Children’s Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman issued the following comment:

“The leaders of the richest nation on earth should not be debating how few or how many children will get the health coverage they need to survive and thrive—God didn’t make two classes of children. Members of the House of Representatives who voted to uphold the President’s shameful veto of the SCHIP reauthorization showed a morally indefensible disregard for our nation’s children. If these Members of Congress won’t stand for providing health coverage to low-income children, what do they stand for?”
