Congressional staffers, child and youth advocates, and passionate young people are invited to join Children’s Defense Fund’s Youth Policy Consultants (YPCs) for our Capitol Hill Forum. CDF’s Youth Policy Consultants are young people with varied lived experiences and identities, who have experienced systemic inequities and who CDF pays to offer remarkable insights into systemic problems and necessary solutions

Our YPCs will spotlight proposed solutions for increased support for school-based mental health programs, particularly in school districts serving students from families with low incomes.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Targeted Funding: Provide dedicated resources to low-income schools to fund sufficient counselors and mental health experts.
  • Diversity Initiatives: Support initiatives to increase diversity in counseling professions, prioritizing underserved districts and students with varied backgrounds.
  • Credible Messenger Programs: Invest in peer support specialists, equipping young adults to assist students facing challenges similar to what they experienced as teenagers.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from impacted young people about the imperative for equitable mental health support in education. Join us to learn more and help make a difference!

The forum is sponsored by the Honorable Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock.
