The story goes… Alberta begat Edna who begat Libby who begat Joy who begat Ayo… Preacher and teacher… poet and novelist… This life has been shaped by Richmond Public Schools… Hampton University… The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University… Union Presbyterian Seminary… and she completed her work on Womanist Vernacular Discourse at University of Memphis where she earned her PhD and an African American Literature certification… Licensed to preach at Antioch Baptist Church in Susan, Virginia… Ordained at the Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia… A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated… A current Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition at Virginia State University… Author of three novels, one devotional, and a spoken word album… She states… “I am not a writer. Prayerfully, I am a person who is so passionate about people that I strategically place words in the correct order to reorder their lives.” Rev. Dr. Ayo M.
