President Carson is a graduate of Columbus City Schools and has 38 years of service as a school secretary in the district. As a district and community servant leader, she has been a strong partner serving children and their families through Christmas toy and winter coat drives with her membership. Another initiative she and her colleagues started was Books on the Bus program. It was an initiative to encourage students to read books during their bus ride to school and back home. She also led campaigns with her colleagues to participate in annual school backpack drives and the district’s annual United Way fundraising campaign. In 2010, she was elected president of the Columbus School Employees Association (CSEA), made up of 11 locals with more than 3,000 members who work in the Columbus City Schools. She also served as president and vice-president of OAPSE’s Local 150, the union for Columbus City Schools’ secretaries. In 2021, Ms. Carson was elected State President of OAPSE. She was the former State Vice President prior to her election as President. She has been a member of the union’s statewide executive board since 2013, serving as the Central District Executive Board Alternate. As President of OAPSE, she has been a strong advocate for public education and students at the Statehouse. She has also initiated voter education and registration drives, targeting high school students and young adults across the state.
