WASHINGTON, D.C.Children’s Defense Fund President and Chief Executive Officer Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson will join the Nuns on the Bus & Friends for the launch of their 2024 “Vote Our Future” bus tour. The kickoff event will happen Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. at JFK Plaza/LOVE Park in Philadelphia.

Organized by NETWORK Advocates for Catholic Social Justice, the non-partisan event will call on Americans to be multi-issue voters who prioritize justice, freedom, and an inclusive future. The rally will feature elected officials, labor leaders, and representatives from faith organizations, all advocating for active participation in the upcoming election.

Dr. Wilson is joining the “Vote Our Future” tour because he and Children’s Defense Fund share NETWORK Advocates’ vision of an inclusive, multiracial, multi-faith democracy that equips everyone to vote in the 2024 election and beyond.

“I am honored to get on the bus in the city of brotherly love with sisters whose tradition shaped me, during my time at Xavier University of Louisiana,” President and Chief Executive Officer Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson said.

I am honored to join these sisters as CDF and NETWORK Advocates for Catholic Social Justice continue the journey toward a brighter for our future,” President and Chief Executive Officer Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson said. “Children’s Defense Fund’s vision of a nation where marginalized children flourish, leaders prioritize their well-being, and communities wield the power to ensure they thrive cannot be made real without the commitment of eligible adults to vote for child well-being.  That vision requires each of us to do our part so every young person grows up with dignity, hope, and joy, and I’m proud that one way CDF is doing its part is by joining the Nuns on the Bus tour and urging people across this country to vote with our future in mind.”

Following the event, Rev. Dr. Wilson and the Nuns on the Bus & Friends will host a town hall discussion at 6 p.m., Monday, at  the Chapel of St. Joseph at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. The event will explore participants’ visions for a more equitable city where everyone can thrive regardless of appearance or income. The discussion will focus on actionable steps leading up to the 2024 election, reflecting shared values of fairness and democracy.

The Philadelphia events will mark the beginning of a two-and-a-half-week bus tour, during which participants will visit 20 cities across 11 states. The tour aims to encourage communities to engage in the democratic process and vote in the upcoming election.

Rev. Dr. Wilson will join the tour from September 30 to October 5, traveling from Philadelphia to Ithaca, New York. He will make stops in Allentown and Scranton, Pennsylvania; Brentwood, New York; and New Haven, Connecticut, to further promote civic engagement.
