CDF-CA Health Justice
The Problem
In California, despite significant strides in children’s health coverage, disparities persist, leaving underprivileged and Black and Brown children and youth behind. These gaps in care can hinder their growth and academic success.
Our Vision
We envision a California where every young person has equal access to comprehensive health services. We’re committed to breaking down barriers based on ethnicity, zip code, family income, or immigration status.
The Solution
To achieve this vision, we advocate for crucial steps, including protecting Medicaid, CHIP, and the Affordable Care Act, ensuring affordable health coverage for all children, providing timely access to quality health care, expanding mental health services, and supporting comprehensive health services in schools. Join us in creating a healthier future for every child and youth in California.
Guiding Health Coverage Reform
In ongoing health reform discussions in California, the focus should be on enhancing children’s health coverage, enrollment, access, and care utilization. With 56% of California’s children and youth covered by Medi-Cal, it’s crucial that any proposed changes prioritize child-specific coverage and ensure it meets their unique health care needs without compromising benefits or affordability. These principles, supported by the California Children’s Coverage Coalition, provide essential guidance for policymakers and thought leaders in shaping proposals that safeguard and improve children’s health care.
