Texas leaders have had six years to get the job done on health care. During that time, 36 states have accepted the Medicaid expansion funding offered by the federal government to cover their uninsured low-wage workers.
Meanwhile, for six years, Texas leaders have failed to take action on health care as our state endures the worst uninsured rate in the nation and the consequences for maternal and infant health, mental health, the opioid epidemic, rural hospitals, families’ medical bills, and more.
State leaders are out of step with Texas voters on this issue. Polls consistently show that nearly two-thirds of Texans support Medicaid expansion.
So now it’s time for state leaders to get out of the way and pass legislation to let Texans vote on whether our state will expand Medicaid.
